Class Title Associate Director, Research Programs/Services
Responsible for the overall and direction and management of administrative and financial operations for the NanoScience Technology Center (NSTC).
Assist the Center Director and NSTC faculty to determine financial, personnel, inventory and information requirements. Supervise administrative and operational areas of NSTC personnel and payroll. Manage financial and administrative operations including accounts, property management, resource management and personnel needs for the Center.
Manage all budget activities for NSTC E&G and C&G (including Research Foundation) accounts. Prepare and administer Center budgets using Standard Budget Ledger (SBL). Advise the Director and faculty regarding expenditure of funds and make appropriate recommendations. Supervise preparation and processing of journal transfers, budget transfers and purchasing documents. Develop and maintain expenditure records for all account activities and provide information to the Center Director, faculty and other university departments as required.
Approve all research proposals involving NSTC faculty. Review proposal documents and budgets for compliance with university procedures. Assist faculty with research budgets, monitoring of expenditures and other project activities including no cost extensions, budget transfer requests, effort certifications, match commitments and account closeouts. Coordinate activities with Office of Research and Finance and Accounting personnel.
Approve payroll and personnel actions for Center personnel.
Supervise property and inventory operations for the Center.
Serve as the Center’s point of contact with Finance and Accounting on all accounts payable, receivable and general matters.
Manage data information requests. Prepare data reports/annual reports for the Office of Research, Institutional Research, Operational Excellence and Assessment Support and other university/state departments as requested.
Functions for the Center Director in his/her absence.
Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience.
Additional Minimum Requirements
Experience in research administration including knowledge of Uniform Guidance, compliance regulations, preparation of proposal budgets, expenditure reviews and effort reporting requirements.
Knowledge of recruitment and hiring processes.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher) including the preparation of budget spreadsheets, general presentations and marketing materials.
Experience with PeopleSoft Financials, Human Resources and Student Records software is preferred.
Strong oral, written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
Have strong leadership, organization, prioritization, judgment, and problem solving skills.
